Students who work to make sense of what they are learning are better able to share their knowledge with others. Students can reach higher gains in their learning and can recall more information when they teach material to someone else. Studies have shown that “the mindset of a student before and after learning can have a significant impact on learning and positively altering a student’s mindset can be effectively achieved through simple instructions, (Everding, 2014).” Study findings have suggested that as teachers tell learners that they would later teach another student content changes their mindset enough so that the students engage in more effective approaches to learning than did other peers who were simply expected to take a test on the same content.
