Parents of incoming first-graders can now apply for an opportunity to enroll in several prestigious Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) programs throughout the district.
“This is a unique opportunity for your child to gain the lifelong advantages of bilingualism and cultural literacy,” said Alicia DeMill, Administrator of Federal and State Programs for Alpine School District.
The application window will close January 24. Parents will be notified of the lottery results after that.
In Alpine’s DLI model, students spend half their day learning in English and the other half immersed in the partner language (Spanish, Chinese, French, or Portuguese). Thirteen elementary schools host DLI programs.
“Research consistently shows that DLI students perform as well as or better than their peers in core subjects like math, science, and English Language Arts,” said DeMill.
The overarching goal of all our language programs is to achieve a level of language proficiency that will enable our students to compete globally and contribute positively to our global society. By participating in the DLI program, your child will not only gain invaluable language skills but also become a more well-rounded, adaptable, and globally aware individual.
