Volunteering and Fingerprinting:`
Alpine School District has made fingerprinting and background checks for volunteers available at no cost to the volunteer.

Every volunteer at Riverview is required to have a cleared background check before volunteering. If you want to help in the classroom, during field trips, or class parties, I encourage you to get this done sooner than later. It can take up to 6 weeks for the entire process, so start now.

Schedule your fingerprinting appointment here.

If you have background check through ASD, there is no need to be fingerprinted again.

Riverview,

We would like to bring to your attention a new Alpine School District Policy regarding electronic communication devices at school.

The policy can be found using this link. Policy No. 5250. As per policy 5250, students are prohibited from having electronic devices out during school hours without special permission.

Definition of Electronic Communication Device:
1.1 “Electronic communication device” means a non school-issued electronic device, including but not limited to a cell phone, tablet, smartwatch, earbuds, or other portable device, that can be used for entertainment or communication, regardless of whether or not such device is connected to a network. Fitness trackers which receive notifications but are incapable of responding to notifications are not electronic communication devices.

3.3 Framework for Elementary Schools:
3.3.1 Electronic communication devices, except as otherwise described in this policy, shall remain in each student’s backpack from bell to bell and shall not be seen or heard. Fitness trackers shall be set so that notifications are not received.
3.3.2 If a student needs to communicate with their parent/guardian during the school day, they may use their electronic communication device either in the front office or counseling office, with permission. Permission will be limited to urgent or crisis situations and will not allow for routine or non-urgent situations.
3.3.3 Electronic communication devices may not be used while using a hall pass, except when used in the front office or counseling office.

If your student is found in possession of an electronic device not in their backpack during the school day. The student will be asked by a staff member to place the device in a paper envelope. The student will then put the envelope into their backpack. The student's teacher will then notify the student’s guardians via email or phone that the student had violated the Electronic Device Policy and got a warning. If a student repeatedly violates the Electronic Policy, then School Administration will set up a meeting with that family and discuss additional actions as needed.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: As the new school year begins, please be aware that there will be a lot of additional traffic around our school properties, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. This will be particularly noticeable during the first few weeks of school as we welcome students and as families settle into routines. Please be extremely patient, and remember to put the safety of all students first.

Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures:

1. School Bus Loading and Unloading Zone:

  • Buses will park in the inside (right) lane of the main drop-off and pick-up loop closest to the school.

  • The main pick-up and drop-off lanes WILL NOT be used for student pick-up and drop-off.

  • The outside (left) lane is designated for through traffic exiting the school.

2. Student Pick-up and Drop-off loading zone.

  • Before and after school, the parent drop-off and pick-up location will only be in the lower Kindergarten parking loop.

  • Please see the map for specific loading and unloading zones.

3. Kindergarten Students:

  • Carpool students will wait inside the fenced off kindergarten playground area.

  • Students taking the bus will be escorted to the bus loading zone in front of the school.

4. Parking Lot:

  • By removing the school buses from this location, the parking will now function as a typical parking lot.

  • Please note that there is no rolling student pick-up or drop off from the parking lot. For students to enter or exit a car, the car must be parked in an actual parking stall and accompanied by an adult into the school.

5. Walking Students:

  • For students who walk to school, please use the marked pedestrian crossings and follow the guidance of our crossing guards.

**During the Open House is a fantastic time to go over your end of the day plan with your students.**

Class Placements:
Teacher assignments will be available via Skyward by the end of day today, Friday, August 8th for 1st-6th grade and by Monday, August 18 for kindergarten students. Go to the “Student Info” button on the left side under Home and look in the Schedule or Gradebook tab to see the teacher name. For DLI students, your homeroom teacher is listed under “Attendance”. If you are new to the district and need your Skyward login and password, contact the office at (801) 610-8726.

Keep in mind a tremendous effort has gone into student placements. We utilize the previous year's teacher team to provide insight on the next year's classes. They work closely together to provide input on how to best balance classes. When creating classes, we take a comprehensive approach. Classes are built around academic abilities, student’s social and emotional needs, gender, schooling skills, student support needs (like IEPs and 504s), and many other considerations. We ask you to honor our process and trust the effort that has gone into placements. If there is a concern with a placement, I would invite you to visit with the teacher regarding your concern and allow them the opportunity to address this before coming to the administration. If after visiting with the teacher you feel like your student’s needs can’t be met, please email administration.
